Firstly, I had the most amazing vegan lemon and lavender cake from the cafe Kona (pictured here) works in 😋!
From my photo series ‘Women in Bathing Suits’.
“I awoke feeling exhausted, overworked and angry at my body for being too lazy to get out of bed. As if my body was to blame for being too weak. Driven by frustration, I willed myself to go for a run, something which I do not do enough. Why is it not enough? I often ask myself whether I would be driven to go for that dreaded run if the societal pressures put on women did not exist. The internal voice nudging at me to 'get into shape'. Despite being aware that I am slim by society’s standards, regardless of size, these pressures still manage to niggle their way into our minds with the theme being; whatever you are, it is not enough. I am grateful for being aware of these unhealthy thought processes and can tell myself - I am thankful for my body and for my health, I exercise to feel strong, and I want to nourish my body with foods which energise me. As for my complexion, I view it positively. There have been times when I associated my darker complexion and afro hair as being less attractive. I no longer hold these views, but recognise that this is still a worldwide view, with darker skin not only being perceived as less attractive, but other much more damaging prejudices. Overall, I value my body and appreciate everything it has enabled me to do. I hope to continue to cultivate a positive body image and to empower other women to do the same.”
