It would be an understatement to say I don’t get out a lot😂. As a single parent of three kiddos, mom of an autistic kiddo, and a third grade teacher my life is spent at home, in classrooms, and at Target.
So it was ridiculously unusual when I was gifted concert tickets to a celebrity fundraiser near my hometown and a childhood friend was free to go with me. It was so unusual for me to have a free day that she and I made a whole day of it.
It was incredibly indulgent for me. An entire day with someone who knows you well and with whom you can be yourself. It was so exciting we decided to head up to our old stomping grounds in the mountains and have a long overdue bbq lunch.
It was everything we remembered. Great food, good people, gorgeous Saturday afternoon and as if things couldn’t get any better, we look up and there stands Kevin Costner, as timeless as ever, mere feet away from us😳.
From my 20’s onward, Kevin Costner is splintered through my life. From my all time favorite movie, Field of Dreams, to Dances with Wolves to Bodyguard and Robin Hood the roles he’s played were some of the sweetest memories of my earlier years. Him representing such goodness in those characters he played at a time when life did not always reflect such goodness in the characters of my own life.
And it also goes without saying that I’m neither graceful or tech savvy so as I’m taking this sneaky pic and thinking I’m all that, Mr. Costner obviously is in the know. It was purely his grace that allowed me to keep this moment preserved and I’m so grateful for his kindness.
I won’t say where or when this was taken because it’s a safe haven. He was with his family and friends, no one bothered him and I have to believe that’s pretty hard to find these days when you’re as much of a celebrity as he is. But I will say thank you for being so kind and allowing this homebound mom and teacher such an unexpected and fun moment❤️
