“Beautiful thoughts create a beautiful life.” 🖤 One of mine and T.C.’s favorite things to do is to stroll through Forsyth Park with Rhett. He loves the fountain - loves it! He’ll stick his little face through the iron bars of the fence surrounding, and peer up at the beautiful sculptures and droplets of water that shimmer down from above like dancing kaleidoscopes. And he’s enchanted. 🖤 Many people are familiar with the iconic Forsyth Park Fountain, but not many know that it was actually ordered from a catalogue! The Janes, Beene & Company’s Illustrated Catalogue of Ornamental Iron Work, to be exact, back in 1858. The fountain was around $3000 to install, and underwent several paint jobs (it was originally black iron), a few reconstructions, and pool expansions, before we came to the glittering beauty we enjoy here in Savannah today. 🖤 The want of a Savannah fountain was inspired by the beauty of park fountains in Paris, and also as a means to help cool the air for park visitors in the hot southern summers. But it was mostly for the sake of beauty. And that’s a beautiful thing.
