I was going to post some more shots from Jellico this morning, but decided to pull something out of my archives to maybe inspire some Memorial Day weekend adventuring.
If you find yourself in Georgia or South Carolina near the I-85 corridor, you should take the time to drive through the sleepy little town of Elberton, Georgia. There, just off of State Highway 77, you'll find an odd little monument. Built in 1980 by a local granite company and paid for a man using the pseudonym R.C. Christian, the Georgia Guidestones are a modern henge with a message inscribed in eight modern languages. The inscription provides 10 guidelines for how society should be kept in harmonious balance, perhaps in the process of rebuilding after an apocalyptic event.
You can find more photos of the Guidestones and a full transcription of the message on my Flickr at www.flickr.com/photos/jiwall.
